Dr. Sönke Lorenz (Dr. rer. nat., Dipl.-Phys., B. Sc.)
Dr. Sönke Lorenz graduated from King's College London as a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He further holds a Diploma in Physics of the University of Kiel, Germany. During his studies he acquired extensive knowledge on surface physics. Dr. Lorenz earned his PhD at a Max Planck Institute in Berlin. His thesis focused on catalytic processes on metal surfaces at the interface between physics and chemistry. A subsequent appointment as a research assistant took Dr. Lorenz back to England,to the University of Oxford, where he studied the interaction between polymers and semiconductor surfaces.
In 2003 he joined the firm of Gulde Hengelhaupt Ziebig & Schneider, specialising in national and international patent, software and IT law. A placement lasting several months at a New York patent attorneys' office allowed him to extend his expertise in US patent law. Dr. Lorenz qualified as a German patent attorney in 2006 and as a European patent attorney in 2009.
Dr. Lorenz is a member of different national and international organizations like the United Nations Association of Germany DGVN. Since 2008 he is a board member of the Berlin branch of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property GRUR.
